5:20:11 AM/05:20:20 AM
We woke up this morning around 5:00 AM only to smell snow. It's faint, but definately in the air, and with the snow elevation already down to 4500 ft. our first good snow fall of the season is not too far away. Today we're going to be getting rid of several objects in the house. Hopefully, most of the objects we won't be using will go today. The couch will visit the dump today, but the rest of the items will go to my mom and step-dad's barn at their house. My mom also mentioned her storage units here in town, which she wants to put her roll top desk in. A typical rule of thumb with hoarders is that absolutely nothing gets thrown out under any circumstances what so ever. Storing them is fine, but getting rid of them all together is like the Pope committing a Cardinal Sin. It's just not going to happen.
One thing that my mother has specified is that the books in the built in book case are not to be put into storage, or in the basement, at all, ever, at any time. Fine. She did not specify any 'rules' about placing the lot of the books into storage within the house itself. So, that's where they will go. She's 'allowing' us the use of the bottom shelf of a glass cabinet that's built into the livingroom. That's ok too, but there are many items on the top two shelves that simply have to go. They are trinkets that no one in the family, other than my grandmother, would keep. Yes, she has some beautiful tea cup collections, plate collections and antique collections. However, there are few that I truly want to keep, and with the exception of some very old (and possibly the only ones left) books, most of what is in that cabinet will eventually just go.
Slowly I'm tuning into the local environment. I think that after a full year here, I will have come to have a better understanding of the elements in this area, and will then be able to accurately sense the weather and wind patterns. Since I've been coming here as a child, Summer elementals are common scents to me. The others, however, are just being learned. Time will tell.
